Elvis' 1957 original Christmas album is one of his most inspired early outings and the first time he tackled anything resembling a thematic concept. Split evenly between rockers and bluesy numbers like "Santa Claus Is Back in Town," "Blue Christmas," and "Santa Bring My Baby Back to Me," perennials like "White Christmas," "I'll Be Home for Christmas," and "Silent Night," and straight-ahead gospel favorites like "I Believe," "Peace in the Valley" and "Take My Hand, Precious Lord," the disc revealed a different side of the rocker for the first time on a public instead conditioned to expect something outrageous. One of the King's shining moments, this is quite simply still one of the best holiday albums available.

This is by far the single rarest Elvis' album of the 1950's. Much rarer than even his first album, and about as hard to find as the "alternate" version of his second album. What makes this album so rare is the combination of the original design (masquerading as a book) which didn't withstand the test of time particularly well (almost all copies are torn, tattered or damaged in some way), extremely limited press run, strictly seasonal nature of the album, and general lack of enthusiasm for Elvis singing Christmas music (why, yes…he was usually associated with the "ungodly" music). However, this is an awesome recording, and we feel very strongly that Elvis' singing vocal prowess was never again in such a full display as here. This album will provide you an ample evidence why Elvis was not only one of the very few great (white) pop singers, but probably the greatest of them all (with apologies to Roy Orbison, Del Shannon, Bill Medley and Gene Pitney). No wonder he was considered a 'king'. Indeed, one playing of side 2 (gospel side) and you will see the Light! Glory Hallelujah !!!

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL AS STRONG VERY GOOD++ . CAUTION: The vinyl is NOT MINT or NEAR MINT, but is nevertheless in a very nice and clean condition. There are some surface marks and abrasions, mostly light and superficial, although some may be longer than 1.1/4 inches (1 inch = 2.5 centimeters)

(b)          The record has a "deep groove" (an indent in the label about 1/2-inch from the edge of the label, which on SOME labels is associated with very early or first pressings).

(c)           The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(d)          The album comes with original 6-page booklet (set of color photos of Elvis)

(e)           The record comes in the original stock inner sleeve.

(f)            Stereo copies of this album are NOT known to exist.

(g)          Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·       COVER (THIS IS THE ORIGINAL, BOOK-BOUND COVER):

THE COVER IS ABOUT VERY GOOD+(+)

-        Cover has a completely split spine (the binding has a crack along the entire length; this can be neatly repaired from the  inside)

-        The gatefold cover has partially split seams on 1 out of 4 "legs" of the cover (about 2 inches / 1 inch = 2.5 centimeters).

-        Cover has some small writing on its front side (about 1 x 1/4 inch in size)

-         Cover has some fraying/wear along the top and bottom seams

-         Cover has two corners slightly worn / dinged  / bent.

-         Cover has a visible wrinkle (crease) in the cardboard base on the front panel

-         Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 3 (front side) and 2 (back side)

-         The front cover has circular tarnish (grayish, dust-covered sections, which closely follow the contour of the record),  probably caused by friction or by rubbing against other covers during the storage. The tarnish is similar in appearance to a common ring wear, but, UNLIKE ring wear, these grayish areas may be possible to clean up with a minor effort and with a right cleansing solution.

-         Cover shows JUST A HINT of yellowing on both sides, apparently from aging.  Yellowing is also noted on the INSIDE gatefold

-        No cut-out (drill) holes.

-        No cut-out corners

-        No saw-marks or indents

-        No stamps

-        No peel-off marks

-        No stains

-        No mold or mildew spots

-        No warping

-        No wax, glue, paint or liquid drops on the cover

-        No glue traces or wax residue.
