Description
Deluxe, limited edition bookcase-style box set, 11LPs covering Gieseking's landmark survey of Mozart complete solo piano works. A scarce set. All grading is visual only unless otherwise indicated.
The box has substantial wear and discoloration (see photo) but is not actually split at the seams or torn. The spine itself is near perfect, and the interior of the box is unaffected by whatever caused the damage to the (mostly lower portion) of the box. The booklet is present and NM, slight discoloration to the tassel. The inner sleeves are NM is most cases with a few having very small tears.
The 11LPs vary in condition from NM (some are apparently unplayed) to VG+ or in a few cases, visually VG with surface scuffs and light hairlines. It is unclear to me how much of these scuffs are inherent to the pressings, which I have seen in other Uk pressing of these first generation Sitting Angels, which are very heavy vinyl, probably 180g or more. On average I am grading the set VG+ though as stated, a majority of the sides are probably NM- to VG++. All sides were cleaned in a VPI machine and placed into new sleeves.
UK mono pressings (no stereo). I spot-tested the sound, particularly the sides with visible scuffing or marks, and the effect is very minimal in most cases as with this heavy vinyl scuffs/hairlines often have almost no audible effect. That said, there are occasional pops and tics on some sides due to the blemishes. If you insist on pristine sound or visual appearance, this is not for you. I am starting at a low price with no reserve reflecting the overall condition. If performance matters to you more than visual appearance or flawless sound, this is a unique opportunity to obtain a very rare set.
