Diese LP hat mindestens drei Stärken: die Aufnahme und die Oberflächen sind makellos, Telmányis Interpretationen reichen von gut bis überragend, und es wurde ein sehr interessanter Versuch unternommen, sich dem Instrument anzunähern, das Bach bei der Entstehung der Werke im Sinn hatte ... Im Großen und Ganzen bewirkt der geänderte Bogen also, dass die hier zu hörende Musik viel stärker dem Erscheinungsbild auf dem Papier entspricht; und die Werke erhalten an den betreffenden Stellen wirklich ein neues Leben. Aber Telmányi geht über die Demonstration des neuen Bogens hinaus; er hat ihn gemeistert und zu seinem Diener gemacht. Und er nutzt dies, um die erschöpfend schwierigen Aufnahmen wunderbar zu vollbringen. Telmányi, der wiederum der Form seines Bogens folgt, präsentiert die Chaconne als einen riesigen Bogen, der rundum befriedigend ist. Grammophon

There are at least three major virtues: the recording and surfaces are faultless, Telmányi’s performances range from good to superlative, and a most interesting endeavour has been made to approximate to the instrument Bach had in mind when originally writing the works ... Broadly, then, the effect of the bow is to make the audible music correspond much more closely to its appearance on paper; and the works really do, in the places concerned, take on a new lease of life. But Telmányi goes beyond just demonstrating the new bow; he has mastered it and made it his servant. And he uses it to give wonderful performances of the exhaustingly difficult works.
