Famous Emmylou Harris first album that she detested later - it's not so bad as funny now, since she later became known for her tasteful vocals and duet-partner from Heaven,here she wails like she hang out too much with Maria Muldaur.

Everthing from the first note of Dylan's "I'll be your baby tonight" finds Harris trying too much to be cool - she sings Hank Williams, Fred Neil ("Everybody's talking") and even Burt Bacharach along with some of her own songs ("Fugue for the Ox","Clocks","Black gypsy") but from to start to finish Harris is either too serious or too eager or simply too much of everything - once she learned how to calm down and control herself, she eventually grew into peerless singer but here she was giving too much to microphone and too often she would wound up simply overbearing. Interesting as an early misstep in otherwise tasteful and dignified career.

EMMYLOU COVERS A VARIETY OF MATERIAL, MOSTLY ORIGINALS, BUT ALSO MATERIAL WRITTEN BY (AMONG OTHERS) BOB DYLAN, HANK WILLIAMS, FRED NEIL AND BACHARACH/DAVID. AN UNDERRATED CULT CLASSIC!

(b)         The record is  apparently pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)         The album comes with the original Emmylou Harris in-store appearance invitation leaflet (not related to  the Gliding Bird abum)

(d)         Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!
