Label Conditions: Both little short of immaculate: very clean, fresh and attractive with only a couple of three tiny, super fine and faint spindle traces.

Warps: Assume all records I offer have no warping of any significance and all tracking is easy and effortless and should play on all turntables and even ‘budget’ decks.

Weight of this Record: 150 grams. A typically impressive weight for a Decca presssed record.

Brief Info: For me, one of the greatest soundtracks ever made – it introduced ‘The Man With No Name’ and was the first in a Trilogy of Spaghetti Westerns starring Clint East. An eerie and haunting piece of music that captured the dark mood of the movie perfectly. This first issue stereo copy images superbly and has hardly been played. Side two offers that unforgettable theme in full as a suite – this is Morricone’s classic and that famous whistle rarely sounded better. This is not just a record for soundtrack collectors – all music lovers will enjoy this timeless classic.

Cover Grade and Format: EXCELLENT(++): a single format with front Clarifoil laminate. This covers the folds and ends on the spine back. Printed and made in England by Robert Stace.

Lamination & Front: A lovely front with fresh, clear and shiny laminate that is fully adhered with barely any friction rubs or dulling. Any of the very few surface creases are fine and faint and show little. A classic front that has aged little and looks very impressive.

Cover Back: The unprotected matt back has aged little either with any discolouration mild and minimal. Any surface marks or set-off are very fine and faint and the lack of ringwear from a heavy record inside for the best part of 45 years is impressive and unusual. Hardly any creasing at all and this vintage back will also prove very difficult to find better.

Top Edge: Practically unworn with full laminate retention.

Bottom Edge: Virtually as made.

Right Edge(s), and Type: Clean, very sharp with no wear, this has avoided any thickening or burring. Even the white strip on the front where the laminate ends a few millimeters short of full width, is clean and unworn. Record enters on this edge.

Spine and Text: A near perfect spine as well: solid, straight with minimal compression, the ends are deeply nipped in manufacture and retain very fine definition. All text is perfect and unworn under the solid and uncracked laminate.

Corners: Minimal traces of tip rubbing and all retain excellent to near mint shape.

Cover Summary: A superb all-round example of this classic 1960’s soundtrack cover, one that will prove very difficult to find much better. This beautiful item should please most-all collectors.

The Inner Sleeve: EXCELLENT(-): the Decca polylined inner is marked down a little for corner creasing. It also has a retailer code on the top right corner. The lining is ultra clear as seen through two pristine window circles and the edges are unsplit with no repairs. This date coded 1-68 reitterating how early this record is.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: EXCELLENT(+): a super visual copy that is very clean, shiny, intense black and heavily pressed. This harsh grading hardly does this super record justice. A light surface mark on the first track that has no sound. Any other surface marks are ultra fine and faint as seen critically under angled light. A copy with minimal plays on all the evidence and sound quality is very impressive. Visually a super record that should please many, if not most collectors again.

Album Played For Grading: Yes. [I play ALL records I offer before submitting to Ebay, also the record is played in its entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing B&W speakers that include the legendary tweeter from their awesome Nautilus range that reveals every blemish or minuscule sound present on any record.]

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: This classic soundtrack plays even above it’s high visual grading with very little to fault. Strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear (even that intense trumpet on the main theme), sound quality is very high with a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound. This images superbly in stereo, that famous whistle never sounded so good. Any surface sounds are minimal indeed, this on a record with quiet passages and no pops or significant clicks were noted and this is an exceptional clean pressing for what is a challenging record. Few copies will outperform this very early 1K/1K (1/1) pressing significantly I feel sure. Both channels are clean and sharp, I am certain this record has been played very lightly and has been clearly well stored and carefully handled, almost certainly in a non-smoking environment. Nothing spoilt my pleasure when play-grading this wonderful record. This copy will prove very difficult to find significantly better and can be strongly recommended.

SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE

My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT necessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, actually a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.

The Argument for Vinyl Original sound and mix (mono mixes are rarely available on CD), high quality sound on clean copies (played on a hi-end dedicated analogue system – breathtaking sound!), beautiful, large format covers, artwork, inserts and even full size posters etc; huge investment potential, and the pleasure of owning ‘the real thing’.
