ERIC CLAPTON "461 Ocean Boulevard" 1974 UK 1st PRESSING NM VINYL & NM ROBOR GATEFOLD SLEEVE - TOP COPY
ERIC CLAPTON
461 Ocean Boulevard
ORIGINAL UK RSO (DELUXE 2479 118) FIRST PRESSING (August 1974) OF ERIC CLAPTON'S "461 Ocean Boulevard" - HIS FIRST RECORD IN FOUR YEARS
THE VINYL HAS SEEN LITTLE PLAY (IF IT'S ACTUALLY BEEN PLAYED AT ALL) AND THE SURFACES ARE PRACTICALLY UNMARKED - THERE IS A LIGHT BRUSH MARK ON SIDE ONE BUT HIS HAS NO AUDIO CONSEQUENCE - THE PLAYBACK IS PRETTY MUCH FLAWLESS THROUGHOUT (ON MY SYSTEM - AT A LOUD VOLUME!)
MATRIX: 2479118 A//1 420 0 11 2 (etched 'KIP') / 2479118 B//1 420 0 13 8 (first pressing)
THE THICK CARD MATT GATEFOLD SLEEVE "Printed by Robor Ltd" WITH 'DELUXE 2479 118' CATALOGUE NUMBER AND FACTORY SEALED LEFT SIDE EDGE WITH FOLD-UNDER FLAP IS CLEAN, FRESH AND UNMARKED AND GRADED A STRONG NEAR MINT
THE ORIGINAL POLY-LINED INNER SLEEVE WITH BLUE PRINTING - "PLASTIC BAGS CAN BE DANGEROUS..." IS CLEAN/UNMARKED/UNSPLIT AND SIMILARLY NEAR MINT
461 Ocean Boulevard is Eric Clapton's second studio solo album, arriving after his side project of Derek and the Dominos and a long struggle with heroin addiction.
Although there are some new reggae influences, the album doesn't sound all that different from the rock, pop, blues, country, and R&B amalgam of Eric Clapton.
However, 461 Ocean Boulevard is a tighter, more focused outing that enables Clapton to stretch out instrumentally.
Furthermore, the pop concessions on the album — the sleek production, the concise running times — don't detract from the rootsy origins of the material, whether it's Johnny Otis' "Willie and the Hand Jive," the traditional blues "Motherless Children," Bob Marley's "I Shot the Sheriff," or Clapton's emotional original "Let It Grow."
With its relaxed, friendly atmosphere and strong bluesy roots, 461 Ocean Boulevard set the template for Clapton's '70s albums.
Though he tried hard to make an album exactly like it, he never quite managed to replicate its charms.
Track Listing:
Side 1: Motherless Children / Give Me Strength / Willie And The Hand Jive / Get Ready / I Shot The Sheriff
Side 2: I Can't Hold Out / Please Be With Me / Let It Grow / Steady Rollin' Man / Mainline Florida
LABELS: Clean, bright and unmarked with no evident spindles or signs of use - possibly unplayed
VINYL Visual: Both surfaces retain their original deep, glossy sheen and apart from a light brush mark on track one, side one (which has no audio consequence) they are unmarked
VINYL Audio: Superb audio - crystal clear, deep, rich and warm sound - beautifully produced and recorded and highly polished. On playback at a loud volume the audio is practically flawless - there are no scratches, no clicks or pops, no groove-wear, no distortion and no real surface noise - very clean pressing - fantastic copy and critically graded a very strong NEAR MINT for audio
SLEEVE: The original gatefold cover is crisp, clean, sharp and fresh with no wear to the edges or spine where all text is clear and bold. As the very first sleeve issued the left side is factory sealed with a folded under flap and the back of the cover carries the 'de luxe' catalogue number - NEAR MINT
