"LAST DATE" - Eric Dolphy Quartet - Fontana TL 5284 - Original UK mono issue. - A VERY RARE pressing of this session recorded in Holland in 1964. - Released in tandem with the Dutch originall, this is a superlative recording of the genius that is Dolphy!!!! - Now 40 years old, this copy, is in absolutely SUPERB condition. The cover apart from a couple of light marks to the reverse, is SUPER CLEAN, without splits and tears and almost no edge wear, even the corners are near perfect!! - The disc is gleaming clean, which apart from light spindle marks, shows virtualy NO signs of playing!! - The group, with Dolphy on alto, flute and bass clarinet, the incredible Mischa Mengleberg on piano, Jacques Schols bass and the doyen of Dutch drummers, Hans Bennink, turn out an exceptional performance. Even though this LP is 40 years old, it is amazing, the far seeing and visionary approach that Dolphy had even then. His clever selection of his sidemen, makes for perfect sympathetic togetherness, all men thinking inthe same exciting inventive direction.
