“Out to Lunch stands as Eric Dolphy's magnum opus, an absolute pinnacle of avant-garde jazz in any form or era. Its rhythmic complexity was perhaps unrivaled since Dave Brubeck's Time Out, and its five Dolphy originals — the jarring Monk tribute "Hat and Beard," the aptly titled "Something Sweet, Something Tender," the weirdly jaunty flute showcase "Gazzelloni," the militaristic title track, the drunken lurch of "Straight Up and Down" — were a perfect balance of structured frameworks, carefully calibrated timbres, and generous individual freedom”

Blue Note, Cat. No. BLP 4163, Matrix Nos: BNLP-4163 A, BNLP-4163 B, "Van Gelder" stamp & "Ear" symbol on dead wax. 43 West 61st St., New York 23, address on back of jacket. Labels have circle “r” (registered symbol) beneath the “E” in “BLUE NOTE.”

Record EX (Superb fidelity with almost no noticeable surface noise even in the quiet passages. Thick, heavy vinyl has some faint hairlines/paper scuffs that do not affect the excellent audio quality! Both labels are clean without visible spindle marks), Sleeve VG+++/EX (Thick american-style cardboard cover has nice glossy surface and no detectable imperfections besides only slightest corner wear and tiny, last owners name, written with black ink on top corner of back side. No seam splits, no edge wear, no cuts, no tears, no holes, no ring wear! LP is housed in original "26 Years Blue Note" innersleeve and is in VG condition with seam splits).
