ERIC DOLPHY - OUT TO LUNCH!
Super rare original US 1st press jazz classic in overall great condition with brilliant MONO audio
Year/Label : 1964 US Blue Note Label number : BLP 4163 Matrix numbers : BNLP - 4163 . A, BNLP - 4163 . B with "VAN GELDER" stamped into both run-off's and the Plastylite P "ear" on the side 2 run-offSolid very good plus (VG+) condition vinyl - weighty, completely flat and retaining a beautiful jet black lacquered sheen. In daylight the condition of the vinyl comes across as virtually unmarked and it is only with close inspection under a bright light that three separate 2cm faint scuff lines come into view on side 1, each non-obvious, non-feelable, surface only, and not impacting upon the truly excellent MONO sound quality. The only other blemish is an 8mm feelable gash on the side 1 run-off (see photos) which obviously has no impact whatsoever upon the sound quality but can sometimes cause a click when the stylus arm completes it's pick-up at the end of side 1. Side 2 is virtually unmarked. A more accurate vinyl grading would be very good plus (VG+) for side 1 and excellent plus (EX+) for side 2 - side 2 is virtually unmarked. Each label is excellent with the only blemishes being a few small and extremely faint spindle trails adjacent to the centre hole on each label and just the hint of some very minor wear on part of the circumference of the side 1 label - again, do take a good look at my photos. Note the "NEW YORK USA" text on each label - synonymous with 1st pressings. An excellent (EX) condition original and iconic outer sleeve, complete with very 1st press "43 West 61st St., New York 23" horizontal text at the bottom of the reverse side of the sleeve. The sleeve is made from thick cardboard and, amazingly, is still in a shrinkwrap though the opening side has of course been opened. The sleeve is hard to fault : rigid edges with no scuffing at all, near perfectly defined right-angled corners with virtually no rubbing at all (just a little on the bottom right corner - nothing really), firm opening edges with no fraying, no unwanted writing, and all colours, front photo, and reverse side text remain crisp with perfect definition. Excellent plus (EX+) (or even better!) MONO sound quality with no sticks, skips, repeats, distortion or background crackle, and just a couple of barely noticeable very, very light clicks on each side no-doubt caused by a speck or two of dust caught in the grooves through decades of storage. The sound quality really is first rate - crystal clear MONO with jazz giants Freddie Hubbard (trumpet), Eric Dolphy (alto sax), Bobby Hutcherson (vibes), Richard Davis (bass), and Anthony Williams (drums) at the top of their game. Comes with original and great condition "27 YEARS BLUE NOTE" inner sleeve with no side splits or edge fraying, barely any age discolouration, and just a little mild creasing in one of the corners. Note that I always ship the vinyl in a new plain white inner sleeve in order to protect the original.
An early 60's Blue Note original in overall great condition. Very rare and highly sought after, and no wonder - this is timeless jazz crafted by true jazz greats.

A bit about myself : I have been collecting UK vinyl for over 56 years from a variety of sources : my own collection, friends and family, car boot and garage sales, door-to-door leaflets, and even through placing an advert in my wife's shop window!
