ESPANA! Ataulfo Argenta conducting the LSO Wide Band Groove Decca Label [ED1] UK - SXL 2020 'Original Recording By .......' Blue / Black rear sleeve
Due to the significance of this recording, and in order to give as comprehensive a description as possible of this particular copy, I felt it only proper to test play the disc throughout. I certainly wouldn't buy an important record speculatively. No visual inspection can identify hidden groove damage or slight warping. As a matter of routine the disc was first cleaned on the Okki Nokki RCM and then test played on a Michell Gyrodec turntable fitted with a SME 1V tonearm and Musicmaker 3 cartridge via Luxman amplification and Cabasse speakers. Visually the vinyl looks good with some faint hairlines and displays perhaps 90% of the gloss one would expect from a brand new, unplayed example. Record lies perfectly flat on platter.
Now for the difficult part. The record was played throughout at high volume and a very rousing and enjoyable experience it was. The disc has clearly been played before but has been well looked after. There is some surface noise throughout and occasional clicks but these are generally inaudible during rousing passages. Side 2 probably plays rather better. Conscious of wishing any prospective purchaser to be pleasantly surprised rather than disappointed, in conclusion, I would say that the item is not perfect but a most enjoyable listening experience and i would grade the record as Very Good [minus] as described in the guidance given in 'Record Collector Rare Price Guide'.
The sleeve is in very good condition with a little corner wear. The inner sleeve is also in very good condition.
