DESCRIPTION

Etta James - “Etta James” Argo Records LP-4013 (Mono) from 1962. Hard to find Original First Pressing Deep Groove Mono Press of this great Female Soul / Blues / Funk / R&B album from Etta James backed by Riley Hampton and his Orchestra. Includes two Duets with her then boyfriend Moonglows Vocalist Harvey Fuqua on “If I Can’t Have You” - which James and Fuqua co-wrote - and Willie Dixon’s “Spoonful”. On the Turquoise / Green with Gold Print Argo Label. This is a Plastylite Pressing with their “Ear” Logo stamped in the Runout Vinyl. In Shrink Wrap with No Cutouts, Promo markings or Barcode. Includes the Original printed Argo Inner Sleeve. It should be noted that this might be a “reseal” or post factory Shrink Wrap as there is a pencil notation under the Shrink.

CONDITION

The Sleeve is in Shrink Wrap and in nice shape. There is some slight corner softening. There is some slight ring wear under the shrink at the very bottom - very minor. There is some “age spotting" on the white back cover and as mentioned, a pencil notation “347” under the shrink. Still very solid with no splits, stains, other writing, tears, etc. and I would rate it as VG+ overall. The Vinyl is in clean Glossy condition looking pretty lightly played. If you look closely you can find a few light scuffs and hairlines. Plays nicely mostly VG+ but with some spots of light groove noise and soft tics, nothing that detracts from the music. Visually probably a strong VG to VG+, I’m calling it VG to account for the slight flaws but mostly plays better and might be improved with a better cleaning than I can give with my Discwasher brush. The Labels show some light spindle trails but are otherwise EX to Near Mint. The inner sleeve has some “age spots” along the opening edge.

Records are graded to the best of my ability to Goldmine Visual standards. If you are not familiar with this grading system (or even if you think you are!), please check it out before bidding I have summarized the important (i.e. I think everyone knows what Mint means) points below in Goldmine's words:
Very Good Plus (VG+): Record surfaces may show some slight signs of wear and may have slight scuffs or very light scratches that don't affect one's listening experience. Slight warps that do not affect the sound are OK.
Very Good (VG): Surface noise will be evident upon playing,... Groove wear will start to be noticeable, as will light scratches (deep enough to feel with a fingernail) that will affect the sound.
I stand by my grades but would like us to be on the same page so no problems arise. I have been selling Vintage Vinyl for over twenty years on the net and I can count the returns I've had on one hand so I believe my grading is fair and accurate. One important note, I try to grade to these Goldmine guides as best as I can understand and apply them. This gives us both a written standard to go by rather than having to guess. But.... it also means that I don't issue refunds over differences of opinion in grading i.e. "That's not MY idea of a VG record!" - I don't know what your standards are and, as such, can't grade to them. I guarantee that items I sell will meet my description, nothing more or less!
