Description
Here's a rare bird. Arthur Briggs' Savoy Syncop's Orchestra plays "Who-oo? You-oo! That's Who!" and "Roses for Remembrance" on Grammophon 21128. Beautiful Al Bowlly vocals on both sides. "Who-oo" has a hot arrangement, a trumpet obligato behind the vocal, a trumpet solo and two alto sax solos.

Kirchstein (bj); Al Bowlly (g,vcl); Hans Holdt (tu,b); Eugene Obendorfer (d). Recorded in Berlin in November-December 1927. Paris in 1933. This record looks to be in E-/E-- condition, and mostly plays that way. There is a bit of distortion during the first few seconds of each side in the loudest passages, and occasional small scratches that tick briefly and unobtrusively. There are small label tears near the spindle hole on both sides and a small edge chip not near the grooves on the "Roses" side. Both sides are pressed very slightly off-center, but not enough to detract from the music. A very, very minor warp does not affect play. In spite of these flaws, the record plays very well and the music is terrific.
