Description
The Barnabas von Geczy Orchestra -- using the name of its arranger, Herbert Jäger, to hide from Parlophone -- plays Am I Blue and Lady Divine on a rare magenta Decca M.51. Recorded in London on July 2, 1929, while the band was playing for the Prince of Wales. The label aptly describes the performances as being by a "concert dance orchestra." This record is in V+ condition, with a label tear on the "Lady" side. The "Lady" side is also pressed slightly off center, but not enough to detract from enjoying the music.
Records from Decca's first few months of operation are not well recorded, and this one is no exception. The music seems to have been becorded at a low level, which makes the surface noise seem more prominent. But the music is clear.
