Evelyn Preer was a star of stage and screen.  She made her film debut in 1919.  She was soon hailed as the first African American woman to become a film star. She starred in a total of 16 films with her last - a talkie in 1932 where she appeared opposite Cary Grant and Marlene Dietrich.  When not filming, she worked as a vocalist with Duke Ellington and Fletcher Henderson's bands.  In Feb. 1927, she recorded as a soloist using her married name , Evelyn Thompson.  These are two of the the four titles she recorded at those sessions. Accompaniment is piano and guitar.
Record has all of its original surface shine. Labels are clean and bright.  Has a 1 inch tite hair crack which causes an audible tick for the first 25 grooves on both sides.  Crack is stable as it has been taped and secured.  Plays well.  Graded E

I use standard VJM 78 record grading method with grades of: M, M-, E+, E, E-, V+, V, V-, G+, G, G-, and P in descending order.  records at V and above are enjoyable while those at V- to G are tolerable.  I do not grade 78's at M or M- unless I can be certain that they have NEVER been played.  G- and P records are only listed if they are extremely rare of of significant historical value.  Domestic shipping is by USPS Media Mail.
