Original ED1, WBG 'Original Recording by'' side 2,7.
There is a very unusual anomaly in this set as side 1,3,4,5, 6 and 8 have been pressed with ''Original Recording by'' label text wide band but without a groove. This is NOT an ED3 label as those labels have ''Made in England'', the sides have the following matrix numbers

. On the whole a very strange occurrence and one that I have very rarely come across before. Unusually I have been unable to find any evidence that this was re-issued in this format after its first pressing. I have been unable to find any ED2, ED3, or NB pressings. Coincidentally the last time I saw this was another Mozart opera boxed set (SXL 2117-20) from circa 1959 with a very similar cast. It would apppear that some peope are calling this label variant as ED0.

Records-Between EX to EX++. Very nice examples that have been well preserved. They have retained a deep glossy shine throughout all the sides. In very strong bright light and at certain angles there are a couple of very light, inconsequential, wispy, inner sleeve marks in places, these are very few and far between and barely noticed if at all, with a couple of minimal light non feelable marks and a few light, minimal hairlines again non feelable, there are a couple of slight pressing flaws on the surface, that again are not of any concern and are seen on occasion. One record side 3 & 6 has some very light dishing creating a very light raising at the edge about 1mm. I have found from previous research with this phenomenon that it is possibly created at point of manufacture, this is not from poor storage as it is not seen on the other records, and is far too consistent around the rim, its almost as though the centre label is slightly concave. I have laid it flat on my record player and there is a light centre rise on one side and edge rise on the other respectively, about 1mm so not a massive problem. I have played both side and it caused no concerns. On the whole a very nice example of this highly sought after boxed set.
I have listened to large extracts of the audio throughout the 8 sides and it played very well, there are some occasional light background noises and light static type noises intermittently throughout, with occasional pops etc. The light static crackle was more noticed in quieter passages but was never overly distracting from what I listened to. The audio was very pleasant, clear and consistent and would certainly match the visual condition.
Due to this set of records being stored and largely unused for many years I would recommend a professional clean to enhance this example further.

Box-EX/EX+

This box is very clean throughout and presents well indeed. There are some light mark but nothing heavy or distracting, some very minor edge/corner wear, with some light corner rubbing marks and scuffs. There are some light surface marks in places, but nothing heavy, with some rubbing around the edges of the front pasted panel, with some light edge nibbles of loss.
There are also some light edge grazes in places, nothing to heavy or severe, one slight split has been repaired neatly, with some areas of restoration where some grazing has been colour matched and restored. This type of box very rarely preserves well, but this example has been well cared for and correctly stored. There is a small rectangle outline of tape staining on the inside of the lid, where a small panel of release notes had been taped inside.
Inserts EX/EX+ Lovely clean fresh libretto and insert, with some mild handling marks, light toning and minimal handling marks in places.
