This is the ULTRA RARE ORIGINAL 1st JAMAICAN PRESSING of the classic Lee Perry production "Heart Of The Congos". This album grades to EX+. There are a couple of extremely light surface marks. It plays as well as when it was bought. The SLEEVE is in EX condition, with a slight split along the bottom edge. It is the "Painted Cover" or the "Painted Stripes" cover. Please see photos. GUARANTEED TO BE ORIGINAL.
I bought this new in 1977, the month after it was released. As can be seen from the first photo, it still has the sticker of the shop where I bought it, Sir Yank Records. This was famous for being the smallest record shop in the UK, in a wooden garage at the back of terraced houses in the Chapeltown area of Leeds. It must have been one of very few copies of this extremely rare first pressing which made its way to the UK.
If you are a collector of 1970s reggae you will know that this is one of the most collectable and exceedingly rare albums in the history of reggae. Two years ago I met some of the members of the Congos (who are still gigging) and they told me that none of the band own a copy of this first pressing. I asked why and was told that it is now 'too expensive'. The last one I saw sold here went for over $1500 (and it was graded EX with surface scratching.) I have what I consider to be a low reserve price, considering the potential collectors' value of this EX+ copy.
Obviously I will treat this album with great respect in packaging and posting it to wherever in the world it ends up. It will also be fully insured in transit. Happy bidding!
