Earl Burtnett Orchestra - Hollywood Variety Productions
with the Biltmore Trio
This lot consists of seven 12" records pressed by Columbia for Hollywood Variety Productions. The tunes are played by the Earl Burtnett Orchestra, with the Biltmore Trio. These were meant for radio broadcast - the program numbers are 15, 17, 18, 20, 21, 23 and 26. Each side has a running time of 5 minutes, for a total of 10 minutes for each program. Some titles are Egyptian Ella, Would You Like to Take a Walk, Dark Eyes, Cuddle Up a Little Closer, Deep in the Blues, Them There Eyes and many more. There are 3 or 4 tunes per program.
The records are pressed on heavy duty laminated stock at 78 rpm. They have seen a lot of use, and have surface rubs, some scratches and a few pits. They would definitely benefit from a good cleaning, as they were stored in a dusty shed for years. But the music is still enjoyable, and the records provide a window into the early days of radio broadcasting. Great for the dance band or the radio show collector.
