Description
For sale is a 45 RPM vinyl single by Earl Grant titled "Hide Nor Hair b/w I Love You Yes I Do", originally released in 1967 by Decca Records of Canada, under license of the Compo Company LTD, located in Lachine, Quebec, Canada, then imported into the United States. I bought this record used, professionally cleaned it on my VPI HW-17 machine and immediately put it into an archival inner sleeve, then into a storage box for 45 RPM singles, that was kept under optimum conditions for both temperature and humidity until today. There is no original inner sleeve with this listing. The archival inner sleeve is Near Mint. On the labels, is a sticker with a piece of tape overlay. In the middle hole is installed a metal Pfanstiehl Push-Up 45 RPM adapter to play on the spindle of a record player, which I am leaving in place. The vinyl is visually graded as Very Good Plus because of superficial sleeve marks, fine hairlines and a couple of faint scuffs, none of which can be felt with a fingertip. I'm play grading this single as Very Good Plus, because of some very low levels of surface noise and an occasional super low level pop, but with incredible dynamics and sound stage, especially the backing vocals that comes from a silent background. Earl's voice is centered in the soundstage and the horns, (especially the saxophone!) have a very brassy sound and realistically recorded. An exquisite disc! The one thing I can add is that the bass is very deep and defined, and recorded very well. A footnote: I played this record very loud, to listen for any defects, and playback was with an Ortofon 2M black, a very revealing cartridge! It plays all the way through without any skips or lock-ups from start to finish. You would be hard pressed to find a copy of this very rare record in this condition, especially a first pressing from Canada. This would be a welcome addition to anyone's collection. I always pack the items for sale in an archival inner sleeve, then put them in either a Kraft paper bubble mailer with sturdy cardboards or cardboard record mailers, always with the records separate from the jackets or its original picture sleeve, then sandwiched between sturdy cardboards before shipping.
