Description
This Russian-made Syrena-Grand Record numbered 30260 and 30261 features Sady Jones and Pete Brown singing Grizzly Bear and Supposing. The vision is being summoned by way of a gramophone horn. One of the beings is winged, like an angel, and airborne, while the other rises from the water. Angels are usually depicted as being golden-haired (thus good); the flowing black hair of both these maidens would suggest an evil intent. The label name presumably refers to the Sirens of Greek mythology, music-playing sea-nymphs whose irresistibly seductive songs lured sailors on to the rocks and to their deaths. The printing is done by way of multi-color stone lithography, with stippled shading to highlight the panel area. This Polish/Russian label (sometimes spelled Sirena) was produced in Warsaw (then in Russian-controlled Poland) and is the only Polish label to have a trans-European presence.
