Description
Eddie Cochran was one of the first wave of rock and roll artists from the States. He was born in Minnesota in 1938 and died tragically young in a car crash at Chippenham in the UK at the end of a UK tour in April 1960. I actually saw him on that tour in Birmingham. It was a great show with Gene Vincent, Billy Fury, Marty Wilde and a few more top rockers from that era.
Eddie learned to play guitar at an early age and shot to prominence at just 18 when he appeared in the rock musical "The Girl Can't Help it" starring Jayne Mansfield. Eddie sang "20 Flight Rock" in the film and that became a big hit in the States, followed up by "Sitting in the Balcony". Both these tracks are featured on this album, which was Eddie's very first album and includes more slower numbers than are usually associated with him.
This album really features songs recorded before Eddie hit it big in the UK in 1958 and 1959 with hits such as "Summertime Blues", C'mon Everybody", Something Else" and "Hallelujah I Love her so". His biggest hit, "Three steps to Heaven", was however released immediately after his death and went to No 1 in the UK charts.
This is an iconic album featuring one of the early greats of rock and roll who died far too young at the age of just 21. The record plays extremely well and the sleeve is good with just some very minor damage with a small rip in the top right corner. The sleeve has a shiny cover to it which causes reflection in the photos. A top buy for any serious collector of music from the 1950s and 60s before the "British invasion" started by the Beatles and Stones.
