EDDIE COCHRAN “20 FLIGHT ROCK” Single LONDON 45/HLU 8386 - 1957
Side A: 20 Flight Rock [written by Ned Fairchild and Eddie Cochran]
Side B: Dark Lonely Street [written by Jerry Capehart and Eddie Cochran]
[Both tracks recorded in July 1956 with Eddie Cochran (guitar, vocals), Connie "Guybo" Smith (double bass) and Jerry Capehart – box slapping]
This 1957 release was an opportunity for Eddie Cochran fans to buy his first UK single in its original format with the A side taken from the film "The Girl Can't Help It" which amazingly did not chart despite Eddie’s superb performance. The record itself is the first pressing from 1957 with a tri-centre rather than the second pressing with a different label design and/or a rounded type centre from the early ‘60s. The pictures confirm that this is an original, comparatively rare in reasonable condition and thus a very much sought after collector’s item.
There is no USA equivalent as such although there was a single released there a year later with a grossly inferior version of the A side featured on this record.
