Vinyl:

Visual assessment: labels on both sides have writing (looks like the name or signature of a former owner.) The record is USED, with some  markings and several scratches, some of these being lightly feelable. Fortunately, the record plays far better than its visual appearance would suggest.

C'mon Everybody: some 'pops', some surface noise at the start, as well as some low level surface noise, but it plays well and without distortion. It is immediately evident that this is a good quality pressing since the sound is excellent despite evidence of wear. Grades between VG- and VG.

Sittin' in the balcony: some 'pops' and more noticeable wear than any other song on the ep. I would grade as VG-. Still listenable and enjoyable.

Summertime Blues: no distortion, some low level surface noise and a 'pop' or two that I noticed. Plays well despite its imperfections. Grades between VG- and VG.

20 Flight rock has a very short 'skip' on "When it comes to rockin' she's the queen" ('skip' is on the word "to").  Grades between VG-/VG.

Record is USED,  and has been played several times but it is definitely not "trashed" either - it is still fully playable and enjoyable despite its flaws. 

Sleeve/ cover:

The cover has several noticeable creases, pronounced edge wear, corner wear, marks, ring wear, wear to the opening and yellowing/ 'spotting'. There is writing and a sticker on the back. The image on the front of the sleeve has worn away in places. Grades grades overall as Poor. On the plus side, there are no seam splits (as yet) and the cover is still functional.

A note on the grading:

Grading is not an exact science. We try to grade conservatively. We don't use "EX" or "VG++" or "EX-".

Vinyl:

Sealed records will be listed as "Sealed" and are presumed to be in Mint condition.

If the record appears to be in flawless condition without any defects it will be graded as "Near Mint".

 Any scuffs, scratches or marks and the record will be graded as "VG+". Typically this will mean a lightly played record with minimal and/ or occasional surface noise only.

A better-than-average used record. A relatively quiet copy.

The grading "VG" will be applied to a record which has been played a number of times and plays with some usually intermittent surface noise in the form of low level or background crackle, 'clicks', 'pops' etc. However, although surface noise is present and is part of the listening experience, it should not overwhelm the music or be especially intrusive,

An average used record. Some moderate surface noise.

A record graded as "VG-" will play with surface noise which is often distracting or intrusive and 'competing' with the music. It should still however play through without 'skips' or 'jumps' and should still be listenable.

A below-average used record. Not trashed - playable, but somewhat noisy.

A record graded as “G” will either have ‘skips’ or jumps, sound terribly noisy incl. possible distortion in the vocals and/ or be unplayable. An abused record. Only value is in its rarity or as a ‘placeholder’ copy.

With many records play is variable. This will be reflected in the grading as, for example:

VG-/VG or VG/VG+ or VG-/VG/VG+

Cover:

Like new – pristine –9 or 10 out of 10

Very Good – minor defects only, such as a tiny mark or crease, or a hint of corner wear – will otherwise be almost flawless –7 or 8 out of 10

Good – light wear is evident, but cover still intact, with (for example) legible spine, some shine to laminate, no serious ring wear etc., well preserved  –5 or 6 out of 10

Acceptable/ Fair – far more noticeable wear, incl. ring wear, corner wear, seam splits etc. although cover is still intact, functional –4 out of 10

Poor – shocking condition incl. pronounced ring wear, seam splits, writing, dirt etc. 

–3 out of 10 or less
