Description
Collectors, here is Edison Diamond Disc record #82127, circa 1919 (this copy circa 1923). Pianist Sergei Rachmaninoff performs two of his compositions: the famous Prelude Opus 3 No, 2, and "Polka de W. R." Fabulous playing, you will enjoy it a lot. Horowitz often played "Polka" as an encore piece in his concerts. As far as I can tell, neither song was issued as a Blue Amberol cylinder. The record plays well with fairly limited surface noise. There are no edge chips, and the labels are attached firmly to the record. Impress your piano teacher with this Diamond Disc, go for it!
When Rachmaninoff came to the USA, he earned money by giving concerts (which he rarely did in Russia) and making recordings. His first recordings were for Edison, who heavily promoted his records in ads and in their "On Broadway" monthly magazine. By mid-1920, Rachmaninoff started recording for Victor, not Edison. I gather the Edison discs did not sell all that well, they appear to be quite scarce. If this is what you like, do not pass it up!
