Collectors, here is a super rare record, Edison Diamond Disc 52407, circa 1928.   Two songs sung by tenor J. Donald Parker, one of several pseudonyms used by Horace A. Ruwe, with Will Donaldson playing piano.  A side is a Gus Kahn tune, "Last Night I Dreamed You Kissed Me".  B side is an Albert Von Tilzer work, "Dear, When I Met You".  Mr. Parker/Ruwe was active from about 1925 to 1935, he made quite a few records for Edison and other companies.  Very nice songs, he sings well and Mr. Donaldson gets ample time to solo on piano, you will enjoy this record.  The record plays well with little surface noise.  Unlike many Edison discs of this period, the record has no edge chips and both labels are still stuck securely on the record. As far as I can tell, neither song was released on a Blue Amberol cylinder.
As you might know, this is a very late release for an Edison Diamond Disc.  The electrical recording is immediately recognizable compared to earlier Diamond Discs, there is increased volume and more of a "prescence" in the music.  Edison started electrical recording around July, 1927, but for a while they continued to also release acoustic records and cylinders.  In early 1929, the company began experimenting with lateral ("needle") cut records.  When this record was released, Diamond Disc sales had been down for years and Edison sold records directly from the New Jersey factory, competing against their (by then quite small) dealer network.  Edison closed shop in mid-1929.  So, the diamond disc format was obsolete within a year of this record's release, and most Edison records and phonographs quickly ended up in the basement/attic/local dump.  So, this record surely had limited sales.  From a consumer standpoint, there was little/no reason to keep the record past the early 1930's.  How many are still around and in nice shape 92 years later is anybody's guess.  Given the rarity of this, I have listed at what I consider to be a reasonable buy it now price.  If this appeals to you, don't pass it up, who knows when you will see another one available for sale!!!
