Edwin Booth 1890 Shakespeare Harvard Vocarium RARE 78 recordrng record.
Actual voice recording of Edwin F. Booth, the foremost American actor of the last century and said to be the greatest Hamlet of all time, have been salvaged for posterity largely through the work of Frederick C. Packard '20, assistant professor of Public Speaking at Harvard.
The original recording was done on a wax cylinder in 1898. In 1939 that recording was taken from the wax cylinder and transferred to the 78 record. I’d estimate the run was limited to 100 copies.
This copy is numbered 44. Number 44 is written on the label of the record on the binder and the insert. I’ve only been able to track down two other copies of this 78. One in the Woodbury reading room at Harvard and one in a museum in Southern California.
Frederick C Packard Junior was responsible for saving many early voice recordings on the record label Harvard vocalin. My understanding is this record was made prior to Harvard Vocalion record label being established.

Edwin Booth is also the brother of John Wilkes Booth.
