Ekaterina Novitskaya (married Hervey, born 1952) - Russian-Belgian pianist.
Daughter of the Dean of the Faculty of History of Moscow State University Georgy Novitsky.
She studied at the Central School of Music, then at the Moscow Conservatory, a student of Evgeny Timakin and Lev Oborin. In 1968 she won one of the most prestigious pianistic competitions in the world - the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels (the organizers allowed her to participate as an exception, since performers aged 17 and over were admitted to the competition); Novitskaya became the first woman laureate in the 17-year history of the competition.
In 1978, Novitskaya married the Belgian pianist François-Emmanuel Hervey, whom she had struck up with ten years earlier during the Brussels competition. Mother of five children. Lives in Mons, continues to tour intensively. In 1985, Novitskaya made her debut in New York. In 1996, the first Russian tour of Novitskaya in Russia after emigration was organized by Mstislav Rostropovich. She performed in Moscow at the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory with works by Mozart, Chopin and Debussy. Her performance in Russia continued in St. Petersburg and Nizhny Novgorod.
Among Novitskaya's recordings, interpretations by Sergei Prokofiev, to whom her author's disc in the Melodiya cycle was dedicated, as well as recordings of masterpieces by French composers - Franck, Debussy, Ravel, stand out.
