Elf featuring Ronnie James Dio Carolina County Ball LP 1974 - signed. This LP was given to me following a gig at Sheffield City Hall when Elf were supporting Deep Purple. Ronnie Dio came dashing up to us, tapped me on the shoulder and said I had the most beautiful hair he had ever seen. He was very chatty and lively, asking us where we had travelled from to get to the gig and telling us about what they were doing next - he was very enthusiastic about the Butterfly Ball project he had been working on with Roger Glover and told us to look out for it. At the end of our chat he went rushing off, shouting for someone to give him copies of their album and when he came back he gave us a copy each, asked someone to find him a pen, signed the inner sleeves on each of them and got other people to sign them as well and then dashed off to speak to someone else. At the time I had no idea who was signing and to this day I don't know who Neil was but I gathered afterwards that as well as Ronnie Dio's signature I have Craig Gruber's. They are not full autographs, as they didn't add their surnames and as they are all made out to Sue I would imagine not everyone would want them. The outer sleeve is in pretty good condition for its age, apart from the fact that the glue along the seams seems to have disintegrated but I haven't tried to repair it as I didn't want to make a mess of it.
The inner sleeve is a bit discoloured with age and I was in the habit of dating albums when I got them (you can see this in the pictures) but the signatures are on the other side to the date.
The disc itself looks in surprisingly good condition apart from a couple of scuffs - I was always very careful about how I handled my records and held them so that I didn't get fingerprints on the playing surface. It is on Purple Records, catalogue number TPS 3506, and I think it is probably the first UK pressing.

I haven't been able to test the record as I no longer have the equipment to play it but it does look good and there's no noticeable warping. Once I got it outside to take photos it looked a little dusty but as I no longer have the right cleaning stuff I didn't try to clean it in case I made matters worse.
