Description
Continuing here a sale run of rare, top-choice audiophile disks at V.S.O.V. (Stay Tuned for More!), on offer is a superb 2-LP set of Edward Elgar's most beguiling orchestral works as first performed by the great Sir Adrian Boult leading his beloved London Philharmonic. (Original UK EMI 1974 Stereo Recordings.) These top-notch, original EMI Stereo tracks are here reissued by the legendary Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab employing the Original Master Tapes but now treated to Full, Half-Speed Mastering, and Finished by JVC (Japan) responsible for Metal Master Production, control of the Custom, Quartz Motor-Driven Ortofon Master Disc Cutting System, and Audiophile-Grade Pressings on Heavy-Gauge Super Vinyl. This Astounding MFSL production was first issued in 1979 to the acclaim of audio critics and wonder of discerning, audiophile listeners the world over. Sonically, this disk offers probably the best interpretations and sound quality on specialty vinyl that these ravishing Elgar works will ever receive. Better yet, this example is First Edition with earliest pressings on CD-4-grade Japanese vinyl. Deadwax Hand-Engraved Ortofon A2 (Side 1A); Ortofon B2 (Side 1B); 2D4A Ortofon (Side 2A); and 2C5 Ortofon (Side 2B), indicating earliest pressings of the Superb MFSL Reissue. Under bright light, Disks appear nearly flawless, very slight hairline Side 1A entirely inaudible upon careful playback. Both Disks retain high-gloss sheen on both faces. Appear very little played. Play-Grading throughout shows astonishing orchestral sound reproduction with sumptuous sonics unveiling extraordinary detail of all orchestral lines and sections. Ideal soundscape to capture Elgar's amazing employment of a wild array of percussion instruments in his valedictory orchestral transcriptions of the J.S. Bach Fantasia and Fugue in C-Minor originally written for keyboard. Wild, Wild Late Elgar! (Who Knew??) Gate-fold, high-gloss jacket in Near-Mint condition richly illustrated. All Seams intact. Not a Cut-Out. Inner, Audiophile-Grade, MFSL dust-free and static-free Rice Paper and Plastic inner record sleeves of the era in perfect condition and encased in heavy-cardboard inner folders within Jacket. A certain Great audiophile rarity here!
