This is a vintage original US mono early second pressing (circa 1957) of the iconic vocal jazz collaboration, "Ella and Louis." Backed by the stellar Oscar Peterson Quartet—including Herb Ellis on guitar, Ray Brown on bass, and Buddy Rich on drums—this album is universally revered as one of the finest studio summaries in jazz history. This variant features the classic early Deep Groove (DG) black center labels with silver typography and the prominent silver Verve "T" logo layout, reading "Long Playing Microgroove Verve Records, Inc. - Made in U.S.A." along the bottom rim. It comes housed in its authentic heavy cardboard single-pocket jacket with the iconic color cover portrait captured by Phil Stern.
Condition Grading: Visual grade only, not play-tested.
- Vinyl Record: Very Good (VG). The heavy-weight vinyl retains an excellent, high-gloss original luster and deeply reflective groove sheen across both sides under direct light. No deep, feelable scratches or gray groove wear lines are visible. Faint surface dust and light, minor paper sleeve wisps from decades of storage are present, but the playing surfaces appear beautifully preserved. The black and silver center labels are exceptionally bold and clean, with minimal, faint spindle trails visible near the center holes. - Outer Jacket: Very Good (VG). The heavy-gauge cardboard jacket is structurally square and rigid with solid, un-split seams and a firm spine. The front color portrait slick is clear, bright, and vibrant with no writing. The reverse side shows standard, uniform age-appropriate paper yellowing/toning and minor storage rubbing along the outer margin edges, but remains free of any tears, stamps, or ink marks.
