The German pianist Elly Ney was internationally known for her interpretations of classical-romantic works from the 1920s until her death in 1968. Because of her enthusiasm for National Socialism, the artist is still known today as "Hitler's pianist". These recordings of four Beethoven piano sonatas were first published by Deutsche Grammophon in 1957. Ney's slow playing, the deliberate delays, the variations of almost hypnotic quality captivate the listener more and more. The pianist played less technically perfect than thrillingly soulful. This recording of four piano sonatas also presents passionate, never boring, atmospheric recordings of Beethoven's works.

The remastering of the analog tapes was done by Rainer Maillard in the Emil Berliner Studios. The pressing on 180 gram vinyl was carried out by the Pallas Group in Diepholz. Set with two LPs in different record covers.
