When 'Madman Across The Water' was released (DJLPH.420) in 1971 in the UK, there were a lot of strong albums out already and consequently, it got "lost in the shuffle" so to speak.  Sales were poor and the Lp was not repressed for quite some time; therefore, 1st pressing of this album are not easy to find.  In my opinion, 'Madman Across The Water' is among the best albums ever released by Elton John. Vocally, he never sounded better and Paul Buckmaster's superb orchestral arrangements added depth to the magical songs that were all brilliantly recorded. The copy I am offering is an early issue ....probably among the first to be available in stores.  The outside and inside of the gatefold jacket is "textured" (to resemble blue denim jeans)  and only appeared this way during the first few weeks of release. In the U.S. jackets were also textured but in a different way. Another interesting feature was the vinyl record itself. When looked at lying flat on a turntable it appeared black. However, when raised up to a light source (see photo) a lovely shade of red would shine through.  Most importantly though, the audio on these early UK pressings are superb and well worth the effort to seek them out.

Condition of Gatefold Jacket: Excellent-......though the quality of the textured card stock used for these 1st issues were high, they were also fragile. This jacket is usually found in poor condition; and though the one I'm offering is not Mint, it's in better shape than most. Mostly evident is wear to the corners....some inoffensive discoloration in some areas....the attached (11-page) booklet is complete and is in beautiful condition. Overall, this is a solid example of a jacket that is usually found in tatters. Please have a good look at the photos.

Condition of Record: Excellent-.....I'm being quite strict here....most of the record plays above this grade but I prefer to be conservative to avoid disappointment. Visually there are some superficial lines and marks but the majority of them have no bearing on the stunning audio. It was a real treat to listen to this wonderful album.
