Elton John Personally Owned/Worn Loafers or Slippers Bought From Out The Closet
I bought this pair from one of the first "Out The Closet" pop-up shops which Elton staged. It was not long before the major sale at Sotheby's and when I was in the shop, an area at the back was full of material earmarked for the sale. I assume these weren't considered to be in good enough condition and had therefore been left for sale in the shop.
Judging from the wear, Elton really liked these!
They are both monogrammed with the letters EJ in gold wire which I have not tried to polish. The labels show "Kilgour Weatherill" which was a combination of two of the best known Saville Row tailors, Kilgours and Bernard Weatherill. Since 2003, the company has merely been known as "Kilgour". A brief search on the web revealed this: "While all the companies are reluctant to discuss their customers, Kilgour's, whose acquisition of Mr. Nutter rejuvenated its image, gets a big show business trade, including Mick and Bianca Jagger, Elton John, Eric Clapton, as well as Fred Astaire, Cary Grant and Jackie Gleason".
Although no size is shown, another pair of silver short cowboy boots bought at the same time were clearly marked 7. The only other detail on the slippers is the number, "31381" written in pen.
Also bought at the time were a Personal Suit by Gene Cabaleiro and a hat believed to have originally been made for the Muppet Show. If there's any interest in these, I'll list them in the near future.
