This has to be one of the most sought after 78’s on the planet! Elvis Presley A mess of blues/ Girl of my best friend UK RCA 1194 on 78 rpm.
Released in Summer of 1960 when 78’s had virtually disappeared and the only way to obtain a copy on 78 was by mail order. Only a few copies were sold as 45’s had taken over and most have since been destroyed or badly damaged. Not this one! RCA records discontinued 78’s after this release due to poor sales and outdated.
Last time on eBay was my previous sale of this record nearly 6 years ago and am very reluctant to sell my only other copy.
Side A- Mess of Blues. Plays great and overall VG+. Some light scratch marks. The only slight flaw is that it has a small nick at the start of play (see final photo) however it does not affect the play and have a video clip showing the record playing over this section. EBay limit video clips to maximum of 1 minute. I cannot identify any interference. Should any bidder request both sides played fully then I can arrange. Label is in nice condition with light spindle marks. No damage to spindle hole. This side was a cover hit for Status Quo in the 80’s
Side B- The girl of my best friend VG. Another lovely play. Some light scratches and a few markings. I am sure the few scuff marks can be cleaned. I do not want to risk tampering too much though. Label is in excellent condition with just a few faded spindle marks. This side was re-released in mid 70s and a top 10 hit.
Please study photos yourself to determine what you consider record grading. Remember this record is 65 years old. All in all both sides plays great!
This has to be the Holy Grail of Elvis 78’s and now nearly impossible to find in this condition. This is available once in a generation, do not miss it! Surely a great investment for any Elvis or record collector.
As mentioned I am reluctant to sell however with Grandkid toddlers running around the house and increasing cost of living for a pensioner, it’s time to hand over the baton to a serious collector.
I will have to post this by special delivery and will ensure it is well packed. I will pay partial costs. I have 100% record with safe postage ans I do with feedback. Alternatively I can arrange collection at a meeting place in North West England.
