1970s one sided acetate with mis printed lable I'TS MIDNIGHT instead of IT'S MIDNIGHT
78 or demo of a song released on September 27, 1974 entitled “acetates” or “lacquers”) or test pressings, are records or components of record production that were manufactured not for sale, but to evaluate the process of making the commercial record itself. This acetate record was most likely given to Elvis as a final review copy prior to the release of “It’s Midnight”. Acetates are by definition rare, made in single digit quantities for producers and artists, and copies that belonged to Elvis are among the most sought-after by collectors. This song was featured on his album “Promised Land,” which hit the shelves on January 15, 1975. The song showcases Elvis’s foray into the country genre, reflecting his versatility as an artist. The track was written by Billy Edd Wheeler and Jerry Chesnut. Elvis recorded “It’s Midnight” during a series of sessions at Stax Studios in Memphis, Tennessee, on December 10, 1973. The recording personnel for “It’s Midnight” included James Burton and Johnny Christopher on guitars, Norbert Putnam on bass, Ronnie Tutt on drums, and David Briggs on piano and organ. The harmonious backing vocals were provided by Kathy Westmoreland, Mary (Jeannie) Greene, Mary Holladay, Susan Pilkington, and J.D. Sumner & The Stamps. It was one of the real gems from the Stax sessions in December of '73. Coupled with the A-side cover of Chuck Berry’s "Promised Land", this single was one of highest quality singles of Elvis’s entire career. "It's Midnight" peaked at #9 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart in January 1975. This acetate record has typed words “ELVIS PRESLEY, I’TS MIDNIGHT, 45 MONO”, (with a noticeably misspelled “I’TS” on the label), and handwritten words in pencil “For, from (erased) Felton, new, mono mix”. The record is beautifully presented in a recessed frame with an engraved plate that reads "UNRELEASED ELVIS PRESLEY ACETATE "IT'S MIDNIGHT" FROM THE PERSONAL COLLECTION OF ELVIS PRESLEY"; the back side of the records is presumably blank.

There is no damage to this one of a kind acetate, photo shows the lacquer layer shrinking or lifting slightly from the aluminium base over time.
this is a genuine RCA Nashville reference acetate rather than a modern fake. The “mono mix” notation and Felton Jarvis reference are exactly the kind of details Elvis collectors look for.
