Description
Now although I have collected acetates for ages you can't know everything. So here's what I do know. This is a mix of the classic track, which I have always loved but was once refered to by an American music critic as ' Elvis slumming it', and I think its pre 1990. I say this simply because the studio label has '01' as a dialing prefix for the phone number BUT you can never be sure as I have acetates from emi that use old labels.So basically I think its mid eighties.
Now you may know what this mix was for-if you do let me know. Its in pretty wonderful condition so have a listen. You may think at the begining that it's stuck-it's NOT -its just the mix.
ELVIS PRESLEY BOSSA NOVA BABY I SIDED 12" UK ACETATE
Alan White has kindly suggested it’s possibly an acetate of the B SIDE of RCA ARON T 1 the 12" from 1987 The A Side being Ain,t That Loving You Baby. The record had 4 tracks in total.
Unfortunately I can’t confirm that but it is exactly the right period and often certain tracks would be cut to test the sound-this is pre digital-and obviously this is an analog track from ’63.
I have also looked up by lists of acetates I have and UK acetates on Elvis-of which I have only ever had two, seem to disappear after around 1969. So it would make sense this was simply a one off. Although rare US acetates do turn up-uk hardly ever.
Interestingly acetates in the 60's were used a lot by publishing houses-Chappel tended to do them through a cutting room called MUSIC CENTRE-these would just the song title and publishing-these acetates weren't really technical tests-they were just used as demo's by the company and despite what you hear they cut quite a few. But when you come round to the time of this acetate this is simply a technical test because they aren't selling the song in the way it would have been in the 60's-so other than this tech test there wouldn't be nay need to cut another one once it was ok-hence it being far rarer than the 60's acetates
Its also important to know that in the States RCA did the majority of cuts for their own artists in-house but in the UK it wasn't like that. For many years UK DECCA cut and test pressed for RCA. I have many RCA artists' test pressing on the DECCA test label.
Eventually,as the companies became larger, each territory was given more autonomy. So if this is from the UK 12 inch mentioned it would have simply gone to the company RCA UK would think would do the best job at mastering.
I have started this very low.
