Description
You have the opportunity to bid on this great example of Elvis' debut album, simply titled "ELVIS PRESLEY" (LPM-1254), released in 1956 on the RCA Victor label. This album is the second in a gradual listing of my Elvis Presley record collection, which I began putting together shortly after The King's untimely demise in 1977. My collection is quite vast and I have always strived for the best quality that I could find, upgrading inferior examples along the way. I am missing only TWO very rare LP's, "Elvis' Gold Records, Vol. 4" and "Speedway" Monaural issues! I plan to list primarily 1968 and earlier material, which is the most popular amongst collectors.
This particular album that you see here is an "in-between" issue that came after the very light pink and the dark pink "ELVIS" on the front, released sometime between late 1956 and up to probably late 1958. "Just Because" is credited to the proper song writers, Bob Shelton, Joe Shelton & Sid Robin. The matrix numbers are (Side 1): G2 PP1282-6S and (Side 2): G2 PP1283-5S. The vinyl, though not quite as gorgeous as the first LP that I've listed, remains very glossy. It is graded VG+ as there is a bit higher degree of surface scratches and hairlines from being pulled from the "onion skin" inner sleeve than the LP in my previous listing. In spite of this, these visual detractions are trivial and have minimal affect on the sound quality! I have played both sides of this album in its entirety and it sounded great, with no skips or repeats or annoying "ticks" or distracting "pops". The labels are super clean, exhibiting strong eye-appeal with the lightest of spindle marks visible. As stated earlier, the cover is the "in-between" variety and grades VG+ with no seam splits or seam breaks! If not for a bit of bending at the lower left corner, I would grade this cover as "Excellent". There is some light soiling visible on the back and along the spine from handling, but like the previous LP that I've listed, there is absolutely no tape, writing, grafitti or stickers whatsoever! The lettering on the spine is very legible until you get to the area of that corner bend where LPM-1254 becomes a bit rough from the bend. The seams (or edges) show only shelf wear. A super cover and record for being well over 56 years of age! See the photos for multiple views of this cover and the record to judge for yourself.
This album will come with its original "onion skin" Inner Sleeve (has tear along one seam) along with a plain white sleeve and shipped with the record separated from the cover to prevent seam splits from the record sliding around during transit.
