Description
This is an auction for an ORIGINAL copy of the 1972 WITHDRAWN release of He Touched Me / Bosom Of Abraham released in the USA.
This version release was WITHDRAWN due to a production error which caused He Touched Me to play at 35rpm and NOT the regular 45rpm (the Bosom Of Abraham plays at the correct speed)
The pressing plant had pressed approximately 10,000 before noticing that they were pressed at the wrong speed!!!
They were then recalled and a lot were destroyed forever!!!!!!
Luckily for the Elvis RARITY collectors a small number were rescued and survive to this day, but very few come up for auction (this is the first i have seen for a couple of years!)
The record itself (74-0651 orange label )is in EXCELLENT- condition.
There are some light marks/scratches. (nothing too deep or drastic)
The labels are CRISP,CLEAN and have NO WRITING. There is the release date stamped on both sides(see photos).
Though the label shows the identification number as APKS-1277 on the He Touched Me the actual identification number stamped in the trail off is AWKS-1277.
I have also play tested this through on both sides and they both play though with NO SKIPS or JUMPS and He Touched Me does play at 35rpm ( i have to admit it sounds kind of weird!!!)
This rarity also comes with the Picture sleeve (which is rare in it's own right!)
The picture sleeve is much sought after and was listed in a U.S guide book back in 2008 as $140 (£95)in the condition it is in now, which i would say is VERY GOOD+ )for the sleeve alone!!!
This sleeve is over 41 years old and shows a few signs of ageing.
There are NO MAJOR TEARS or WRITING.(see photos)
The only thing that stops this from grading even higher is some ringwear/creases (very common with this release) a few small water marks wear to the top opener and a partial seam split along one side.(see photos)
That said this does not come up for auction very often!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Overall 2 years ago this was valued at $290-300+ (£200+ approx)
That said i have seen this rare mispress go much higher than that (especially due to the low numbers known to exist!)
With a realistic starting price i will just let you fans/collectors decide where this goes!!!!!!
