Description

An original 1st mono press of BACK! Matrix 2B/3B. Ok, so 1st things first...Is this actually a genuine 1960 copy? Large silver spot with those horizontal parallel lines - quite distinctive and generally speaking only found on RCA from the fifties. Only found on ABSOLUTE 1st PRESS with this title. Labels state 'Made In Great Britain'. All later copies mention 'made in England' - I mean ALL and every RCA pressing across the board! So, why all the fuss over a 1st...well there are bound to be many copies from the early 60's of this title. Any serious collector is going to want to track down a 1st month copy. And let me assure you it is well worth the wait because a 'near master' copy of this LP is going to pay you back major dividends in audio quality. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original gatefold cover. We also have the original Decca inners sleeve. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex/Ex+) In super condition and has only seen light use. Under close inspection a couple of light marks per side - nothing heavy or troublesome though. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT+ level of playback with a couple of slightest deviations. If you're a big fan of Elvis crooning and showing off that super voice....well woth taking a closer look at this copy...it is a stellar player. Intros and inbetweens are really quiet and the audio comes across with perfect clarity. No kidding...I was a little bit taken aback by this copy. Clearly Elvis is famous for that vocal delivery...but wow...on this copy...man it is like you're right there. The fidelity is breath-taking. I'm gonna mention the track 'FEVER' in particular. This track is basically Elvis crooning away and finger clicking, with some bass plucking, and an occasional drum tap. Now...NOTHING gets more paired down that that and this example is playing it SUPERB! I mean literally sort of grab-you-by-the neck superb. The fidelity is just top-of-the-line. PERFECTLY quiet background - which must be unbelievably hard to find on this sort of vintage. Overall a blindingly good player.  Soldier Boy....right at the start of side 2... just starts up perfectly clean instantly! I mean that is incredible. At worst all I could detect was a couple of crackles in a couple of spots in that mega fussy THRILLs at the end of side 1 [NO big deal at all]. Perhaps one solitary tick in one isolated spot per side. This is well beyond average preservation levels. HIGHLY recommended.
Cover (Vg+) Not quite up to the standard of the vinyl, but still very impressive none the less. This is a flimsy gatefold...MOST copies are gonna be knackered 60 years later. But this example has clearly been cared for. My only complaint is that there's a bit of light tanning in evidence on the exterior surfaces. But that opening panel is great order with just a couple of minor thumbnails - ditto the rear. The interior is looking smart with less ageing apparent...very tidy. Minimal edge wear and firm openings. The spine is 99% intact with slightest knock right at top. Overall the cover still retains verygood rigidity.
Inner (Ex-) Light ageing. Bag present. No splits.
