beershopper Elvis Presley- Kissin' Cousins-Orig. LP, RCA LSP-2894
I've been garage saling for years, patiently kissing frog after frog, looking for my prince. That was me you saw at the last garage sale you hit, pawing through a box of old, ratty albums underneath the table. I rarely finding treasures amidst the Mantovanis, polkas, and Barry Manilow crapola that seems to be in everyone's garage, but I never give up. That's why they call me Beershopper.
One day, I stumbled into a garage at an apartment complex, and literally, bent down to tie my shoe and there it was- my prince, as it were, even though I'm a heterosexual male- a box of Elvis records. Most of them are still in the original shrink wrap, and all of them still have the inner sleeve.
Egads, I said to myself. My heart was beginning to beat more rapidly. There was no price tag on any of these albums. Were they for sale? I turned to the elderly woman and asked, "Are these old albums for sale?" She said, "Oh sure, how about a -'BLANK'- apiece?"
I said- OK. I'm not going to tell you what she said, because that might make you resent me, and I want you love the Beershopper. And just so you know, she seemed pretty happy when I handed over the -'BLANK'- dollar bill, so everybody wins. I don't feel guilty in the slightest about it, either, I've kissed a lot of frogs- I was due.
Up for auction is the second LP from the Linda Christle collection, the garage sale find of my summer- 1960-whatever's "Kissin' Cousins" by the great Elvis Presley by RCA Victor. This is the LPM/LSP-2894 Stereo version of this classic, with white lettering to the label. Overall in tremendous shape, like all the albums in this collection, they appear to have played hardly at all BUT- and there is always a but- there are a few flaws to be pointed out.
The original owner of this lot is named Linda Christle. How do I know this? Because on the interior of the album cover and on the face of the title of the album itself, (side 1), there is neatly written in cursive penmanship, "Linda Christle". She reminds me of a certain Batman lover named Charles Muffley III I once knew, who had an AWESOME Batman collection that he clearly never read, but was nonetheless compelled to sign his name of ownership to it. I'll never understand the Charles Muffleys and Linda Christles of the world for this reason- if you wanted these things so badly, why didn't you enjoy them?
No matter. Now they belong to the Beershopper, and soon, they may belong to you.
There is not too much for flaws to point out besides the pen marks- (both are pictured below). There is also a little scratching on the middle of side 2, right around the hole, also pictured below. Apparently Linda had a little trouble getting Elvis on the turntable. There's no scratches to the songs, the insert is mint, the cellophane is intact, just slightly tearing away in the lower right corner. I say it again- egads. Beershopper will sell anything, but mainly I've been selling old comics, and if I had to rate this I'd give it a VF-NM to NM rating, in other words- RIDICULOUS NM(tm), even with the pen marks.
There is NO RESERVE on Beershopper auctions. Ever. Bidding starts at a measly 5 bucks. Winning bidder will pay $7.00 insured shipping. Overseas bidders are welcome, but are obliged to pay for extra shipping costs.
