THIS IS THE VERY RARE MONO ALTERNATE "OLD SHEP" PRESSING AND THE TEXT ON BACK COVER ORIGINAL. A FIRST PRESSING OF ELVIS' SECOND ALBUM "ELVIS " released in 1956. RCA LPM 1382 . "LONG PLAY" ON LABELS. BACK COVER DOES NOT HAVE ADS FOR OTHER ALBUMS ONLY WRITTEN TEXT. (SEE ALL PICS)
THIS DEFINITELY IS THE "ALTERNATE TAKE OF "OLD SHEP" ON SIDE 2. MATRIX NUMBER ON THIS ENDS IN "15S". IT WAS PLAYED SEVERAL TIMES FOR POSITIVE ID CONFIRMATION. On alternate take, Elvis sings "he grew old AND his eyes were growing dim" (there is no AND on standard presses). Once again this album was play tested and this is the guaranteed ALTERNATE take.
Disc: Long Play. Black label, All print on label print is silver. "NEW ORTHOPHONIC" HIGH FIDELITY on right side. Larger font "ELVIS" above spindle hole. Camden N.J. on label edge.

PLAY TESTED: No skips. No loud pops. Barely any surface noise even on the lighter ballads Powerful sound fidelity. Big Sound. Elvis's vocals are awesome and beautiful..
ENJOY THE KING'S RARE "ALTERNATE TAKE" ALBUM. BTW "Old Shep" is a sweet but sad song about man's best friend. If you are a dog lover, listen with caution. You may need a hankie. Elvis didnt write the lyrics but he knew what to do with them.
On October 3, 1945, Elvis Presley sang "Old Shep" at age ten for his first public performance, a singing contest at the Mississippi-Alabama Fair and Dairy Show. Dressed as a cowboy, he stood on a chair to reach the microphone. He came in fifth place, winning $5 and a free ticket to the fair rides.[6] At sixteen years of age, in 1951, he again performed it for a talent show at L. C. Humes High School, where he was a student, winning an encore for his performance.] Elvis' cover version here was released on this album in 1956.
