Elvis Presley Sun Records 217 7-inch 45 RPM single featuring:
Baby Let’s Play House
I’m Left, You’re Right, She’s Gone
This historic Sun Records release dates from 1955 and was Elvis Presley’s fourth single for the label. “Baby Let’s Play House,” written and originally recorded by Arthur Gunter, was recorded by Elvis at Sun Studio in Memphis with guitarist Scotty Moore and bassist Bill Black. It became Elvis’s first recording to reach a national chart, rising to No. 5 on Billboard’s country chart.
The reverse side, “I’m Left, You’re Right, She’s Gone,” was written by Stan Kesler and Bill Taylor and recorded during Elvis’s early Sun period. Together, these recordings capture the raw mixture of country, blues and rhythm that helped define the emerging rockabilly sound. Sun 217 was released in April 1955, before Elvis moved from Sun Records to RCA Victor.
The “I’m Left, You’re Right, She’s Gone” side has the hand-etched matrix U-142-45 with the number 72 in the dead-wax area. The “Baby Let’s Play House” side is hand-etched U-143x-45-2, also with the number 72. These markings are consistent with an original 1955 Sun Records 217 pressing. Please examine the close-up photographs for the exact markings and condition.
Condition:
This record is being offered as a collectible in visibly well-used condition. It has a fair amount of age-related wear, including numerous visible surface scuffs, scratches, marks and general handling wear on both sides. The yellow Sun labels show age, discoloration, spotting, rubbing and other visible wear.
The record has not been cleaned or play-tested. Sound quality, skipping and groove wear are unknown. Because it is untested, no guarantee is made regarding playback.
The green-and-white Columbia Microgroove sleeve shown in the photographs is included. Please note that this is a generic Columbia sleeve and is not an original Sun Records sleeve. It has writing, discoloration, creasing, edge wear and general age-related wear.
Buyer will be responsible for any cleaning after purchase. Cleaning is being left to the buyer so that the record can be treated according to the buyer’s preferred method.
