Description
On offer here a now Rare and Coveted original Columbia Masterworks Historic Version (ML 4678--"Special Collectors Series") of the magnificently talented young central European cellist Emanuel Feuermann in concert with the lauded English pianist Dame Myra Hess via a masterly rendition of the Beethoven Cello Sonata No. 3 (A Major, Op. 69). Disk is rounded out by Feuermann's inimitable, ravishing interpretation of the great Max Reger's rarely heard, Bach-inspired Cello Suite in G Major (Op. 131C, No. 1). These vintage, towering performances date from the refugee Feuermann's London-based recording sessions of 1936-37 utilizing the best sound technology of the era. Columbia's U.S. Re-issue of these sessions (post-1942) delivers bright, atmospheric, satisfying monaural sonics--the best of this era. This exemplar's deadwax mechanically stamped 1A (Side 1) and 1B (Side 2) indicating First Pressings from the original masters for this U.S. Columbia Re-issue. Visual inspection under bright light shows disk appears Near-Mint, indeed Flawless retaining a high-gloss vinyl sheen on both sides. Amazing for its age. No visible imperfections of any kind, (Play grading of all tracks happily provided upon request.) Jacket is also near-Mint as well with still glossy front face and Seams Intact all round. Not a Cut-Out. High Fidelity Plus Sticker on Front Face left. Inner paper sleeve is pristine but not original. This is a superlative copy of this now very rare recorded performance.
