Description
This is a very rare old recording, 78 rpm, 7", E Berliner's Gramophone,with many patent numbers, the latest printed being Oct 29 1895, It is disc No 131Z, Selection from Robin Hood, Sousa Band, cond by Henry Higgins, who did a number of Sousa Band recordings for Berliner. The record shows groove wear and label wear, and has a crack about halfway across the grooves, see photos. The crack seems to cause the record to skip, that is, it stays in one groove until about half way when it tracks correctly. There is considerable surface hiss, but you can hear the selection. It is one of the first disc records, well over 100 years old, by Emile Berliner who invented the disc record. Far from perfect, but definitely a rarity. Few of these old Berliner records survive.
