Here we have Enrico Caruso singing "Questo o Quella" on a very nice 78 rpm 10" Red VICTOR MONARCH number 81025.
It was recorded, with piano accompaniment in 1904 in New York, and is the very first selection recorded by Caruso at his very first USA recording session! (ripple of applause)It is remarkably clean and tidy, being blemish-free and flawless, apart from one very light grit-in-the-sleeve mark (see various photos).
The label is slightly below the surface of the main part of the disc (apparently this is relevant to dating etc) and the disc has no raised edge.
There is a copyright etc label stamped into the shellac on the back. Among other things, it informs us that copies of this record can be bought at $20 for a dozen. If this offer still holds good, Mr Victor, we'll have a hundred dollars worth, please.
We have battled against insurmountable odds to provide a recording of this actual disc for you. It "should" appear among the photos and is straight from the socket at the back of the record player, with NO NOISE REDUCTION.
You're very unlikely to find a cleaner example on eBay, and it's an absolute corker. However, we've set a fairly reasonable starting price, we think. Buy now before vendors sober up.
