Description
Eric Dolphy “Out To Lunch” Original 1964 New York Blue Note ST-84163 RVG Ear.
Eric Dolphy’s 1964 masterpiece “Out To Lunch” was a genre defining album that Eric sadly never got to see hit shelves. It stands as his defining work and one of the gateway albums into the world of free jazz.
To start, some some pressing info:
Original 1964 press with New York labels.
Van Gelder stamped in deadwax.
Plastylite “ear” in deadwax on both sides.
Stereo press with stereo stamped in deadwax.
Original 1964 “25 years of Blue Note” inner sleeve.
Condition:
Vinyl: lower end of G.
This LP is pretty well loved. Several scratches cover the record, causing fairly significant surface noise upon playing. Fortunately, this is a Rudy Van Gelder album, so the music still shines bright. I only spot tested it before listing, but I played this LP many times in the past and I don’t recall any skips or repeats. Labels have some staining from age, but are otherwise in great shape.
Cover: Fair/poor.
Overall, the cover looks quite nice, but there is significant water damage to the lower left front cover and lower right back cover. Part of the cover slick is missing toward the front middle cover, and some of the liner notes are unreadable on the rear cover. Surprisingly, besides some small tears in the damaged spot, there are no other seam splits. There is an old price tag on the upper right front cover. See pics to determine severity of damage.
Inner Sleeve: fair.
The days of this inner sleeve being used to protect the LP are behind it. It looks amazing considering the water damage this album has suffered, but it’s included more for looks than for function. A modern inner sleeve is included for protecting the album.
So definitely not an archive copy, but it’s a nice starter/player copy.
Shipping:
At this time, I do not ship outside the USA. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Shipping is $5.00 USPS media mail. Record will be shipped in a record mailer and the LP and cover will be placed in a protective sleeve, with the disc shipped outside the cover to prevent further damage to the cover. Stiffeners will be used to protect the LP on its crazy journey through the USPS.
Happy bidding, Jazz fans!
