Here we have lovely Ernestine Schumann Heink on a nice early PINK G&T 043068 78rpm. She's performing (with an orchestra) "Trinklied" which is the drinking song "Il segreto per esser felice felici" or Brindisi d'Orsini from Lucrezia Borgia by Donizetti. She recorded the same selection, with the same German title, three years earlier for Columbia, also in New York, with piano accompaniment and inferior recording quality. (Thank You Robert Johannesson and others). This is not a perfect record. It plays very well indeed, and reproduces beautifully, but has some light sleeve-marks and one very tiny grit-in-the-sleeve mark which produces a few tiny clicks on our ludicrously expensive transcription deck, and can't be heard at all on our top-of-the-range HMV wind-up. It is clean and tidy, and is very collectable. Let's call it an honest VG/VG+ which plays MUCH better than it looks. We have photographed it in unflattering sideways light, so you can check everything for yourselves.
