Description
Here we have a 1961 Mono copy of Etta Jones - Don't Go To Strangers which is extremely rare on the collectable Esquire label. Recorded in 1960, RVG ( Rudy Van Gelder) is stamped both sides in the deadwax - the US metalwork was most likely sent over to Esquire in the UK
The record has been Degritter cleaned and the vinyl has come up with a good sheen but there are numerous scuffs & hairlines visible to both sides plus a small feelable scratch to Side B Track 3 which plays through with some clicks and noise. I have graded Good + visually, it actually plays better than it looks, more like VG.
The sound quality, as with all Esquire pressings, is clear and vibrant. There is some noise in parts as mentioned but the vinyl does play through with good sound quality and Etta's wonderful vocals taking centre stage.
The flipback laminate sleeve is still sturdy with no laminate lift. There is ringwear and corner rubbing plus "frilling" to the opening edge and tears beginning to the mid front and bottom opening- see photos. A number written in pen to the rear top LH corner plus a letter W to the front RH corner.
Priced to reflect the overall condition.
