Even Dozen Jug Band - Unplayed ultra-rare 1964 Elektra promo, Sebastian, Muldaur

The only recording by the legendary Even Dozen Jug Band featuring future stars John Sebastian (Lovin' Spoonful), Steve Katz (Blues Project, Blood Sweat & Tears, Lou Reed producer) and Maria D'Amato, who as Maria Muldaur would have a modest string of hits beginning with 1973's "Midnight at the Oasis."
Somehow this 54-year-old album is as pristine as the day it landed at KABC-FM (the future KLOS.)  There it remained, apparently unplayed -- not a speck of dust on it, no scratches, no scuffs -- until I rescued it over a dozen years later from a storage room.  The original Elektra dust jacket is in beautiful shape except for very light damage on the top, probably sustained when I pulled it out of the jacket to photograph the vinyl.  The vinyl and Elektra acoustic guitar player label are flawless as is the jacket other than a "Property of KABC-FM record library label" which is kind of cool. 
How is it possible that a radio station copy could remain flawless?  The real question is what it was doing there in the first place.  Before 1968, KABC-FM was a simulcast of all-talk KABC-AM.  When FM switched to rock 'n roll, an acoustic folk group was literally the last thing you'd hear on a station that existed on a steady stream of Stones, Beatles, Zeppelin and electric Dylan.
As the late rock critic Lillian Roxon wrote of the album a handful of years later, "All that talent wasn't enough to make the band the sensational success one would imagine."  But -- and this is a promise -- if someone you love is a post-Weavers folk purist, this album will have them swooning.
BONUS:  1968's The Best of Jim Kweskin & The Jug Band lp on the Vanguard label.  Not as rare as Even Dozen and not a promo, but I will include it if you'd like.  It has been played (not much) and has a few light scratches, but it's good music and also where D'Amato landed and met future husband, the deeply talented bluesman Geoff Muldaur, before striking off on her own.
