Written and produced by Ben Watt and Tracey Thorn over the spring-summer of 2021, Fuse is a modern take on the lustrous electronic soul the band first pioneered in the mid-90s. Thorn’s affecting and richly textured voice is once again up front in Watt’s glimmering landscape of sub-bass, sharp beats, half-lit synths and empty space, and as before, the result is the sound of a band comfortable with being both sonically contemporary, yet agelessly themselves. Everything But The Girl (EBTG) is a British band that was active from 1982 to 2000, consisting of the duo Tracey Thorn (vocals) and Ben Watt (guitar, keyboards). Their music can be described as a blend of various genres, including pop, jazz, and electronic music.
In the early years of their career, EBTG gained popularity as part of the indie music scene with their folky, acoustic sound. However, they later evolved to incorporate more electronic and dance elements into their music, which helped to bring them mainstream success in the 1990s.
Some of EBTG’s most well-known songs include “Missing,” “Driving,” and “Temperamental.” Their music is often characterized by Thorn’s soulful and emotive vocals, as well as Watt’s intricate and layered production. EBTG’s lyrics also frequently explore themes of love, loss, and introspection.
