''Being both an ebtg and back to mine series fan for years, I have been stunned by this. I have played it to death both at home and in the car and am still finding new things in each listen. Ben and Tracey have managed to combine cool, chill and occasionally a dash of melancholy yet somehow always provoking a smile.
It is the perfect soundtrack to the current heatwave (together with a long cool beer whilst watching the sun go down)
I know this will be a long term favourite - quite extraordinary.''
''In my opinion this ranks up there with MJ Cole, Groove Armada and Faithless as one of the best albums in the Back to Mine series.
This is a brilliantly conceived album and superbly showcases the musical inspirations behind a very influential musical duo. The mix has all the right ingredients for a chill out album from the beautiful intro courtesy of DJ Cam right through to the end of the CD with Someday We'll All Be Free from Donny Hathaway. In between we have great tracks from Carl Craig, Model 500, The Roots and Dubtribe Sound System. The stand out track for me however is the haunting vocals provided by Beth Orton laid ontop of an EBTG inspired beat - brilliant!!!
As I've said this is one of the best in the Back to Mine series, a pure classic of album which will never date or be out of your CD player - I promise.''
''The latest in the 'Back To Mine' series sees Everything But the Girls' Tracey Thorn and Ben Watt choose a range of soft, late-night tracks that have helped shape them into the band that they are.
The tracks on the album have a very diverse range from a few dub-classics, to the café house beat to the soulful. It is a very good and appropriate mix that seems to fit the EBTG bill. Ben Watt mixes the CD and with such difficult tunes he does a good job to keep the transactions to a minimum. The selection that Tracey and Ben have chosen seem to be very appropriate for the current time -a nineties sound with an eighties/soulful touch. There are some good moments on the CD and some real times where you can actually picture the two of them sitting down listening to these tunes and selecting them for the final album, however there are a couple of lowlights where the CD becomes a little tedious. Beth Orton's contribution is one such case where her great range is wasted and the song sounds very flat and monotonic. However such times are more then made up for and for the EBTG fan this will prove a very intriguing sneak in on their musical background and tastes. A good compilation that will help you while away an hour or so through the eyes and vibe of Tracey and Ben.''
